CCC#2 : Winner Announced

Post by Micky »

The Winner of this months Create a Card Contest is......*Drum Roll*, Its a tie!

The Winners are Relinquished for Freya, the Armed Negotiator and BajulaBlitzSlain for Natalya, Short-sighted Sniper.

The months Contest was filled with amazing entries which made it very difficult for us [Bell, Kyuukei and I] to Judge. You can see just by the fact that we ended up with a tie that how close the some of the entries were to winning.

Relinquished's Freya, the Armed Negotiator was one the first few entries and it was an instant favorite among all the judges, it set the bar for all the entries to come and held its own till the very end. It was unanimously one of the best named cards out of all the entries as the title "Armed Negotiator" was said to fit the art very well. I personally think the Flavor Text is genius. The card is well balanced, and the effect is simple, original and most importantly it reflects the art perfectly. Great Job.

BajulaBlitzSlain's Natalya, Short-sighted Sniper was one of the later entries but it was no pushover. In the last CCC BajulaBlitzSlain was the runner up, and I'm glad he didn't give up but rather did the opposite, he gave it his all, and it paid off. Although at first sight the card didn't identify as a top entry after deep analysis of the effect and usability the card was a unanimous tie for the winning title. This cards effect is nothing less than genius, its a very powerful card and at the same time very well balanced. Metamorph is a very tricky effect to balance as creatures with Metamorph tend to have a specific trend in terms of cost/effect, and we feel he did a great job in doing that. The effect is very unique and fun at the same time. The flavor text is one of our favorites. Bell wrote : "This card makes me smile every time I read it". Great Job.

Below are the Winning cards [followed by comments on the other entries]:

mYsTeRiOuS and his entry, Lady Magniria, were very close to winning, Kyuukei felt that it's effect was the best among all. I think you did a great job with the card, there is a definite link between the Flavor Text and Card Effect, but it was felt that the card didn't fit the art as well as the other two. We still all think that you did a great job with the effect and balanced it very well. *Thumbs Up*

The next entry which was also very near to winning, and ironically which is was also posted just after Lady Magniria is Prince_of_Light's Natasha, The Comrade. During the judging there was a time when I thought that it might just end up being Prince_of_Light winning Again! But it was felt the card becomes overpowered as Humans tend to be cheap cost and the card it self can be too swarmy and too easy to lock with. But the card was well made, the flavor text makes absolute sense and the feeling of Comradeship was kept alive throughout the card. Good work.

Akash Prince's Sange, Ordnance Woman was also one entries that was in the running for the win. Kyuukei felt that while the Flavor Text was fitting, it could be better, but the effect was very well balanced. The situational part fitted perfectly and the Metamorph, which as already mentioned is very hard to balance, was very skilfully added. That is exactly the Metamorph a 5 Cost creature would have and I must also say the name was one of the most unique of all the entries. Good Job.

Cap'n's Katalin, the Swift was one of the safer entries, the effects were seen as more basic as compared to many of the entries mentioned above. But the card as a whole did have its presence which made it easier to imagine it as a real card. The Flavor Text was one of my favorites, I love how it links to the title as well as the second part of the effect. Good work.

Rashaskool's Rimna, Fatal Commissar was another interesting entry but the theme of the card didn't come across as strong as some of the others. Although the effect was still very well balanced and introduced a unique 'on destruction' effect to the Fire Civ. Not only that but the Flavour text was also very relevant to the cards effect. Good Job.

Nehal94's Lucia,The Gunmistress was also one of the entries that created a card which made use of the combined effect of Humans. We felt even though the effect was useful, the Draw part didn't fit well with Fire Civilization. Although the Card Name was one of our clear favorites.

Shadow Phoenix's Mistress of the seas, Zisha, The Undaunted was a tricky one to judge. It is not comparable to many current cards which made it more complex in weird ways. Wave Strikers don't normally have speed attacker, and they never have Return to hand at turn-end effect. We are glad you took a risk but felt that it didn't pay off as well as hoped. I personally really like the Flavor text, I think those shades are cool too!!

DKR's "Sioux", the Firebrand was surprisingly one our favorites as well. Although the cards effect didn't fit the art very well and the theme wasn't as strong as some of the others we did feel that the effect was very interesting. Bell felt the effect is awesome, and the 'destroy shield for speed attacker' is extremely original and stylish.

Varma, the Arms Carrier by eezz was personally one of my favorite entries! The only problem with this one was that it can be too abusive with something like Quixotic..etc, and because of its low cost it can easily be summoned in chains. But over all what is soo awesome about this card is that its Theme is PERFECT. Firstly the title 'Arms Carrier' goes perfectly with the cards effect, which goes well with the Flavor text, which ALSO goes well with the Cards Art. As Kyuukei wrote: I can totally imagine her tossing the Bazooka to someone else. It was a pleasure reading this entry, very good job.

Catherine, Infantry General by Outcast was a very interesting entry as well, the effect was clearly linked to the cards name. All the judges responded well to the co-working effect given to the card but it was felt that the second part of the effect made the card weak without reason, it was that which kept this card from being one of the clear top entries. But this was well done over all, the name was also one of our favorites.

Reyna, The Sharpshooter by CrimsonBrawler was one of the more unusual entries. Bell wrote : I'm not sure if this entry was serious in terms of trying to win, but as a shout out for the lore of the Fire Civ, it is absolutely perfect in Flavor Text. Props for that.

Leona, the bazooka girl by king_of_duel was a fun entry to judge, it was clear that the bad grammar in the flavor text was intentional and we found it funny in a good way. The card effect however was felt to be overpowered and I'm not sure if you meant to write 'is blocked' instead of 'isn't blocked', but we had to judge the entry based on exactly how it looked at the time of Judging. Hope you try again next time.

Castelery's Hakura ,The inspiration of humen was seen by Kyuukei to comes across as very slow for a human, and no inherent acceleration so he feel it is balanced, if a but unfitting. Again the co-working Humans effect was given credit.

Batosai, the Fire General by Miar, Holy Commander was one of those which we felt took the Human's Wikia Page too literally. But still the connection to the flavor text was very well thought out and created a nice dramatic feeling.

Madam Reila, the Sealer by Duelme was definitely one of the good entries of the bunch, it was well balanced and focused. The effect wasn't felt to fit a Human very well, but it came very close to being great. At first to me the concept of 'the sealer' wasn't very clear but later I understood that you probably saw her Bazooka as one of those that fire those capture nets. It was a job well done.

Burner's Rosie, Hidden Artillery Specialist was the most fun to judge, Kyuukei thought the flavour text was out of place for DM, but at the same time it wins points for being punny and executed. We both agreed that the effect was good and well balanced. You have obviously proven that you can take one of the difficult effects ( i.e Strike Back) and balance it to perfection. Good Job.

Tsubaki, Scatter Shot Specialist by Heavyblade had a perfect name for the cards effect. But even with Sympathy in mind we felt the card art didn't represent a creature that would cost 7 mana. Kyuukei wrote : good card, it fits the image considering the RIDICULOUS amount of artillery fire in the background. I was glad to see that you used the Human Wikia page in a way that it aided your submission.

Hamano, the murderer by Devil was one of the cards which we felt didn't fit well thematically. Also the effect was weak, though it could be easily altered to make it stronger which is why we liked the concept of the card effect and saw potential in it.

Renegade Babe Remi by boblovelots was fun to judge. We felt the card didn't show enough creativity but overall I also think having a 1 cost Human would be fun/cool. ;D

Valkyr Gett, The Blindfolded Gunslinger by Dr Quack was a very complete entry, but it was felt to be overpowered. But we were very happy to see that someone used the card art template as one for an Evolution creature, very good that you stepped outside the box and took a risk.

Kizuna-96's Varia the Firearmed Mistress was a nice entry even though had many effects going on at the same time. The part we most liked was the last part of the cards effect, it was unique and nothing like what we have ever seen. To be honest in my opinion that was one of the most creative stand alone effects of this whole Contest, maybe not fit for a Fire card, but you should save that effect somewhere for the next CCC contests. Good job.

Palas's Sophie, princess of whim was also one of the very good card entries, the effect was very well balanced and he was daring enough to use Accelerator unlike anyone else. Kyuukei felt that the cards name was very well tied to the flavor text. Although the card was well balanced we did notice somethings that could have been done differently. But over all this was a great great entry and we applaud the playfulness in the flavor text.

Mighty's Kelly, The Killer Beauty was one of my favorites not because I liked the card effect or theme but because of the reasoning you have given with it, hehe. I think it was very sweet of you to use this opportunity to give a shout-out to your girlfriend. Bell wrote : "Bonus points for tribute to your girlfriend!".

I would like to congratulate Relinquished and BajulaBlitzSlain on achieving the title of Create a Card Contest Winner and also would like to thank everyone who took participated as well as thank Kyuukei & Bell for helping judge all these great entries.

In the second picture BajulaBlitzSlain's name should be written not by Relinquished.

Some interesting facts:

1) I started off with a mono dark deck.
2) Almost all my decks have dragons.
3) Annihilation is defined as "total destruction" or "complete obliteration" of an object.
4) Vice Leader of Royal League.

I would also love to see a low cost creature that destroys shields, but then no one will use anything else hehe, I knew that you must at least have some feeling its overpowered, try to make something a bit normal powered thing time best of luck for the next one!

I did see this, lol, just the usual do-not-speak-until-necessary. I also managed to notice Relinquished's name on the second card, but felt too lazy to make a post. Was certain someone else would notice that and make the post.

Anyways... was a fun competition. Thanks to the judges.

At least the Flavor Text got some cool points, though I don't see how it is unusual as a card.

Nevertheless, congrats you two.
