I was testing my new Water/Wind deck and Nera was testing a Fire/Radiance deck he made to help him get his barrings in the game.

Game 1: Definitely the best of the 3 games I'd say that came down to the wire in the end.

Perfect stuff all around, from a designer's perspective. Water most definitely showed its strength in being able to move through and around things, but you could also see its weakness in that there wasn't ever a point where it could dominate directly until Nera drew mostly blockers, and Water just pretty much counters the whole 'getting in my way' concept.

Might have gone a bit differently if he'd been 'threatening' with Regain and Temper, since though you can bounce them, you'd be more likely to wait, and then he'd get CR.

Tactically, due to this, it's actually good to play some Ardor Matrix in decks like this since Fire's 'weakness', namely its low likelihood to actually interrupt the opponent directly, showed a bit. Fire is one of the elements most capable of turning small things into 'big' things, and this lets the player rebound quickly after being attacked by using the tempo for Ardor and beating stuff down with the creatures you didn't even expect to be able to fight back. For those who are looking for the big hit, Flash Ignition works well, and I've been reminded to point out that you can actually choose the same creature the second time for a total of 8000 power added.

In Nera's deck, the blockers would then help to protect the creatures, and the Rune, resulting in more trading and therefore more time to use his abilities. Using Fire defensively isn't easy, but it can be done a bit.

From the looks of it the deck may need Rius Meteor a bit more than it needs Testament Roar but with the very real and dangerous option of Thermal Pulse chains, that could be a matter of what it's up against. At the single it will be hard to tell either way.

My finalized equations mean there's a coming change to Snipe Rammar but that change will only alter things slightly. Basically it won't consume tempo to bounce things with equal or less power. I'm running through the progression equation to see if there's a condition where it'd only consume 1, as well.

So yeah, 'working as intended'. Thanks for the log, other thoughts from anyone who reads the games (or wants to correct anything I said here), please add.

I didn't bother checking how Runes work so I avoided them, but other than that, my deckbuilding and testing yesterday, especially after my duels with CB were based around everything you just mentioned. Was pondering that need for a decent Born Ready, did something with Flash Ignition, looked at Hussar and so forth.

The aim for the deck I used was Romulus and making his effect hit harder by the time he was out, but bounce and that Water just played into its weakness, so I couldn't count on it. Kind of tried to go in a different direction to maybe account for that and get him out faster.

Other than that, the games were fun and tight, excluding possible bad luck the first one. And I screwed up the last game when I should have played that early Thermal Pulse to take out two, I derped out on creatures being CR. ;/

A slight buff? Interesting. And concerning. :S...But from what I played so far his late game combo-ing potential felt considerable as you can just play it in a massive hand dump for tactical advantage and the tempo consumed won't hit as hard.

It has some frustrating pinpoint in a game where it takes some setup to handle multiple cards at once and it feels like it can easily come just in time to save the day.

So that's my 2 cents so far. Not a rich man for now. ;p
