Unity Matrix

Post by Gohar »

Name: Unity Matrix
Type: Rune
Quadrant: Affinity
Element: Radiance
Cost: 2
Effect: [Deplete 3]: Choose one of your creatures in the conflict, 'A'. Choose one of your creatures in the conflict 'B' (you may choose the same creature both times). Creatures 'A' and 'B' now each have the others written abilities in addition to their own and if they share a race, they each get +500 power. This effect lasts until the start of your next turn, even if one is removed from the conflict.
Writer's text: And so they unified and covered them from the front and covered them from the back and covered them from the sides so that they could not escape the light of justice.

The Element:
The creatures of Radiance build their power stably and often have great ability to defend themselves or affect conflicts in predictable ways. Unity Matrix is great in terms of affecting the conflict. Noting that Radiance is has a variety of different one use per turn abilities, unity matrix can help a duelist to use that ability twice for a double advantage. Radiance's effective blockers will provide considerable defense to this rune while it helps to swiftly overpower the opposition with its effect.

The Combat Ability:
In terms of combat, unity matrix is powerless as it is a rune. It is good for distractions as it tends to be a threat and an opponent would most probably try to get it removed immediately thus protecting you from the attack of 3000+ creature. This could prove quite beneficial early game, but there is no use for this card before having 3 tempo and even then it is preferable to have 5 tempo to ensure that it is benefited from. It can however help to give other creatures the blocker effect in case of emergencies which is a great way to stall enough to get a card for a comeback.

The Effect:
The effect of unity matrix is a fairly creative. It is like you are making a fusion creature of your own. If we consider the cost, then drawing this card early game isn't very effective due to lack of good creatures and since you are focusing on summoning the creatures at that point. Truly it is during the mid-game and end-game where this card may be benefited from. Because at that point there are generally many cards to to use and tempo to spare.
In a game considering it is mid or late-game, unity matrix has both offensive and defensive capabilities which are significantly valuable as long as you have the creatures to use it. An example could be unifying Berbel and Engorica for an offensive defensive giving either a great stall or a bucket-load of pain for the opponent (metaphorically speaking). Giving examples to this cards effects will take tremendously long due to its amazing flexibility. So this is indeed a very useful card once it becomes useable.

Ratings:

Casual: 10/10
Obviously, in a casual match, the point is to enjoy the duel. If the duel is awesome and really fun, losing isn't really something to be sad because you get a lot more than just a victory. Remember Chaos Fractal is for fun, not to show you are he best (that can be a secondary goal XD). So in such an atmosphere what can go wrong with one of the most fun and ridiculously creative cards in the game? This card is after all a game saver in many situations.

Tournament/Ladder: 6/10
Although unity matrix is good everywhere in terms of effect, Its cost makes you sacrifice 3 tempo which could have bee used for something else that is more important. Also this card will not go well in all decks as many decks are based on massing creatures and using power rather than effects. Some use effects that are used during summoning and here unity matrix becomes pointless as you cannot unity with cards in your hand. Some decks already have enough of their effect that unity matrix isn't required. So unity matrix has certain restrictions to be of optimum use and is thus not so good for every deck.

Random: 7/10
In a random duel, tempo is more important than in a casual duel because you cannot predict the cards and, therefore, you cannot predict how much cost reduction you shall have. so spending so much tempo for unity matrix is a considerable decision. However in the case that you have 1-2 effective creatures in play and 1 or more other creatures of lesser use, unity matrix could be a game changing card. If you have an interpret coda, then you can unify with cheap card for more destruction. having a kraken eleganto lets you unify for more discard. If you need more blockers then unify a blocker with another card. In an RND duel this card might help you get what you need just in time.

Overall: 8/10
As long as a deck is ability based with great cost reduction or tempo management, unity matrix is an ideal card. Especially since it works well with cards that are not from radiance as well.

Important Points:

1) It is possible to use unity matrix on the same card. Example: a person can use unity matrix on one parli (choosing parli as the first card and the second card) and suicide it to have the opponent consume 2 tempo instead of one.

2) Using unity matrix on the same card does not work for all cards. This technique will not work on cards that exhaust themselves to use their effect (examples:Vibra and Black Carpet) and will also not work on cards that use their effect when they attack (examples:Kraken Eleganto and Interpret Coda). So it is better to unify them with another card.

3) If Compost Bri has [damage 2], if a player uses unity matrix on it and another card, the other card will not get damage 2 unless it has 6000 power or more (and the card will get [damage 3] if it has power 12000 or more). The same goes for compost bri's [damage 2] ability. If compost bri is only has [damage 1] but is unified with a card that has 6000 or more power, the other card still gets [damage 2] (or [damage 3] if it has 12000 or more power).
